About Me
Some birds just freeze time. The Pallid Harrier is definitely one of them. Whether it’s hunting over a field or passing through on migration, whenever I see one, I’m completely in the moment. Nothing else matters for a while. And then, few days ago, this happened. Just after painting a juvenile Pallid Harrier, one suddenly…
😜 Elk jaar opnieuw blijft hij me verbazen. Die azuurblauwe vleugels, aparte kop en vooral die typische rechte houding speurend…
‘Make ready…!’
💫 Hope you…
Caspian terns! The terns on steroids😎 These terns have a bill like a dagger, you don’t wanna be a fish when they are hunting😯🐟 I finally found some time to paint again, hope you guys like the approach of painting them in a recognisable setting: ‘parent with a kiddo’ Psst! They are passing through the…
🦅 Osprey fact ! 🐟 Did you know that the osprey (Pandion haliaetus) isn’t just a master fisher, but that its long legs are actually part of the secret? They look like they were made to plunge into the water — like an elegant diver who forgot his flippers 👣. Thanks to those long legs,…
Little owl. Until an old farmhouse was torn down, this one was a constant presence along my route towards the agricultural fields of Flemish Brabant. Each spring, there were always a few fluffy chicks nodding off their heads, in the shelter of an old barn. A few studies of this magnificent little owl. #birdsofinstagram #birdart…
Kingfisher! Not the first and surely not the last watercolour of Flanders most colourful bird 🤩 Last week was a bit of a pain foor kingfishers as they do NOT like the cold and frozen waters ❄️ Enjoy! A4📃 Canson Watercolour🖌️ @danielsmitheurope #watercolor #kingfisher #artist
✨ Just finished this watercolor of the stunning long-tailed duck! 🎨 These beautiful birds breed in the remote tundra of northern Europe, where they nest near freshwater lakes. As winter approaches, they migrate to coastal waters, preferring the icy shores of the North Atlantic. Their striking plumage and unique diving skills make them a joy…
Flying out of 2025! 🎨🐦 I’m thrilled to share my latest creation: a painted barn owl! After a setback with breaking my hand last fall, I’m more motivated than ever to enjoy painting our beautiful local birds. In 2026, I’ll focus on capturing the vibrant spirit of these feathered friends. Each painting is a celebration…
A birder and his favourite bird… This red kite was made for @vogelwerkgroep_likona to thank birder and nature enthusiast @koenleysen1 for his inspiring lecture and contribution to #schulensbroek #watercolour #watercolor #art #birdsofinstagram
🦉 **Discover the Short-Eared Owl: The Nomad of the Skies!** 🌾 Did you know that the short-eared owl, or *Asio flammeus*, is a true nomad? Their presence in open fields is heavily dependent on the population of voles, their favorite prey. When vole numbers are abundant, they settle in areas where hunting is easy, but…
